    This designated historical building acts as a venue for a number of local adult and children’s performing arts groups including Borelian's Community Theatre, Scugog Choral Society, Choral de Lites and Miller Lights. Special events such as weddings and graduations are also often held here.

    The Applewood James Shaver Woodsworth Homestead Foundation
    This Georgian farmhouse was originally built in 1850, with additions added later on. It is furnished in the style of the years 1850-1911. The home was the birthplace of James Shaver Woodsworth, crusader for the disadvantaged and founder of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (which later became the New Democratic Party).

    Colborne Lodge
    John George and Jemima Howard were the original owners of the estate that is now High Park. Their 1837 regency cottage is now open to the public. Many of the original furnishings and paintings are on display. The coach house has two original period carriages. 19th Century cooking and craft workshops are held frequently.

    Historic Bovaird House

    Built in 1840, the Historic Bovaird House is a great Canadian example of a Georgian-type farmhouse. A tour throughout the home reveals a plethora of period furniture, dating from 1850 to 1920. Visitors can participate in a variety of events, held at the house every year. The Carriage House Craft House has a variety of gift items by local artisans and Mossie's Tea Room offers agreat place for an afternoon cup of tea.

    Fort York

    This National Historic Site is the site where Toronto's first buildings were constructed. The famous Battle of York also took place here in 1813. The site contains the largest collection of original War of 1812 buildings in Canada. The eight log buildings contained here have been restored to their original state. Life as it was in the fort is depicted, and uniformed guards demonstrate military drills of the period.

    Dr. William G. Hutt Home and Practice
    Located in the east side of historic main street, the Dr. William G. Hutt Home and Practice is the site of the first six-bed hospital in York County. The hospital was opened by Drs. Lowell Dales and J.H. Wesley in 1922.

    William Roe Fur Trading Post
    William Roe, who was a fur trader at the ford of the Holland River in 1814, opened his first post on this site. Over the years the building grew to include a home, a general store and a post office.

    Enoch Turner Schoolhouse

    Toronto's first free school was built in 1848, for poor Irish immigrants (only Protestants were allowed). Today it is used as a 'living history' for students to get a perspective of what school was like in the 19th century.

    Lambton House
    This heritage building was built in 1847. The restoration of Lambton House was the first project for Heritage York, and the house now serves as their headquarters. A good display of period photographs may be viewed.

    Cawthra House
    The original building at 262 Main St. S was a trading post run by John Cawthra. In 1830 a new building was constructed and this became Cawthra's home and store. The town's first bank was established here in 1865.

    Gibson House Museum

    This great example of a Georgian brick home was built in 1851. It belonged to the Gibson family. David Gibson was a Scottish emigrant who farmed the land, was a surveyor and also involved in politics. Today the house has many special events and workshops including hearth cooking, preparing Scottish food and gardening. Guided tours conducted by costumed interpreters are available.

    William N. Starr Building
    The William N. Starr Building, located at 189 Main Street, was constructed in 1863 and has been home to a variety of businesses throughout the years. A hardware store, a bakery, a stationary and book store, a telephone exchange and a china shop have all been housed in the building.

    King George Hotel
    The site on which the King George Hotel stands was originally the home of another hotel built by fur traders Roe & Borland. The current building was constructed in 1845 by a local named James Forsyth.

    The Richmond Hill Heritage Centre
    Located in a cottage built in the 1840s that has been restored to reflect the look of the era, the heritage centre aims to represent the cultural heritage and history of the local community through gallery exhibits, programs and workshops. The centre is situated in Amos Wright Park which features gardens and picnic areas.

    Bradley Museum
    The Bradley Museum is set in an 1830 frame home. It is furnished with original artifacts from the period, and has a working kitchen. Attractive gardens surround the house and there is a barn and a drive shed. The Anchorage- an 1830 Regency cottage- serves as a tearoom and gift shop.

    Osgoode Hall

    The heritage buildings of Osgoode Hall are located in downtown Toronto and have been occupied by the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1829. The architecture of the structures is riveting - from the polychromatic stained glass windows to the entangled wrought iron fence. A visit to the library, thought to be one of Canada's most refined rooms, is a rewarding experience.

    Mackenzie House
    This was the home of William Lyon Mackenzie - Toronto's first mayor. It is a typical row-house of the Victorian period, and is still lit by gas. There are changing exhibits in the gallery (a modern addition) and costumed guides give tours. There are also workshops and Victorian cooking demonstrations. The house also has a fully functioning 19th Century print shop, and an attractive courtyard garden.

    Harwood Point Historical Gardens
    These attractive gardens are a great place to spend some time on the lake front. The gardens are dedicated to the HMS Ajax, the Royal Navy ship after which the town is named, and to the Defence Industries Ltd plant and workers who lived in the area during WWII. Steeped in history, these gardens provide the opportunity to learn more about Ajax's early days. Access is via the foot of Harwood Avenue South.

    Charles Hargrave Simpson Building
    Located on the west side of Newmarket's historic Main Street, the Charles Hargrave Simpson Building was constructed in the middle of the 1800s and is notable because Anne Mary Simpson, the province's first woman druggist, operated an apothecary onsite from 1886 to 1914.

    Village of Kleinburg

    This small village, minutes from Vaughan, offers an historic look at Canada's early towns. Originally established in 1848, many of the town's original buildings still prevail, along with its cultural traditions as well.     Peel County Jail
    The Peel County Jail was constructed in 1867 and is now a part of the Peel Heritage Complex. The building was last used as a jail in 1977, and is now filled with colourful displays and exhibits. The building is also used as meeting and office space.

    Victoria Hall
    Victoria Hall was originally built as a "Disciples of Christ" church in 1883. It housed the Aurora Library between 1945 and 1963. Public bookings for the hall are available.
